Integrating environmental considerations within any design process requires new strategic thinking and new design activities. Making these changes requires a combined ‘top down’ management approach and ‘bottom up’ design approach. Addressing this need, the G.EN.ESI project outcomes include a comprehensive methodology that guides the management of environmental integration within existing design and development processes, and a suite of software tools that support environmental decision making during product development. The outputs of the G.EN.ESI project have been develop to support the production of competitive, cost effective products whose environmental impacts have been reduced throughout the product lifecycle.
